Into the Woods, is a Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical based on favorite Grimm's fairy tales, including Little Red Ridinghood, Cinderella, Jack (of Beanstalk fame), and the childless baker and his wife. In Act I the wishes of all the wonderfully-costumed characters are granted, with all expecting to live happily ever after.

Then comes Act II.

Each character finds that to make dreams come true, they need to go after them by venturing into the woods. In the woods is the adult world, with consequences for wishes, and other characters who make their own demands. “It’s sort of like life,” says director Jeri Schelhaas, who invites area residents to come explore “the woods” and how we are to live there. Do we run? Do we hide? Do we adjust? Schelhaas encourages parents to take their children, especially for Act I, but prepare them for the darker side in Act II.
