Volkers hired at Dordt College

A new Electronic Media Production Coordinator and Instructor has been hired at Dordt College for the upcoming academic year.
Mark Volkers has accepted the position and will be moving to Sioux Center from Grand Rapids, Mich., in July. In addition to teaching communications courses, Volkers will assist the college in the preparation of multi-media DVDs and CDs in conjunction with Dordt College’s Admissions and Advancement Offices.
Volkers is currently the Communications Director for Christian Reformed World Missions, where he has served since 1996. In his position at CRWM, Volkers oversaw content and design of the website, produced documentary films, was a photojournalist, was editor of Proclaim magazine, and was a lecturer on the integration of faith and media.
Volkers was previously an adjunct professor of journalism at Reformed Bible College. He has created and presented workshops on photojournalism, film making and the use of technology. Volkers has filmed, written and produced documentary films of cultures and peoples from around the world, and has received 15 Telly Awards for his documentaries.
Volkers earned a Bachelor of Religious Education degree in Theology from Reformed Bible College in 1988 and a Master's degree in Journalism from Wheaton Graduate School in 1990. He is currently in a Ph.D. program in Communications at Wayne State University in Dearborn, Mich.
Mark and his wife, Janelle, served as missionaries in Africa from 1985-87 and again from 1991-1996. They have three children: Elsa, 14; Lauren, 13; and Colin, 7.
