Yale professor to perform at Dordt College

Dr. Leon Plantinga, chairman of the music department at Yale University and concert pianist, will perform and lecture on Saturday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m., at the B.J. Haan Auditorium on the campus of Dordt College.

Plantinga is a noted musicologist who has written five books concerning 19th century musician and their music. They are: Beethovenís Concertos: History, Style, Performance; Romantic Music: A History of Musical Style in Nineteenth-Century Europe; Anthology of Romantic Music; Muzio Clementi: His Life and Music; and Schumann as Critic.

A Michigan native, Plantinga did his undergraduate work at Calvin College and Michigan State University. He received his doctorate at Yale and has been an instructor and professor there for 40 years. Dr. Plantinga has presented lectures, recitals and seminars at Harvard University, Eastman School of Music, Vassar College, Columbia University and many other institutions both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Plantinga is a brother of Calvin Seminaryís president, Neal Plantinga, as well as University of Notre Dameís Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Philosophy of Religion, Alvin Plantinga.

His Dordt College performance will feature the works of Schumann, played on the campusí Steinway piano. There is no cost to attend this lecture and piano performance.
