Ag Day at Dordt College April 23

April 12, 2004

The Agriculture Department at Dordt College is hosting Ag Day on Friday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the outdoor area on the north side of the Campus Center.

Free activities include a large petting zoo, Phoebe the Wonder Cow, a machinery and pick-up display, a grain bin safety display, games, music and greenhouse tours by appointment. Ag students will also roast pigs and serve an outdoor picnic lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Contests held throughout the day include guessing the price of the machinery and animals, with team judging of livestock taking place at 10 a.m. A bale toss contest will be at 1 p.m., followed by a roping game at 2 p.m.

From 10 a.m. to noon, Todd Hofman of Sanborn, Nathan Vander Schaaf of Orange City, and Wes Zylstra of Kellogg, will demonstrate a miniature grain bin and digital display that records the strength of an individual and their ability (or inability) to rescue an individual entrapped in grain.

Throughout the week, Dordt students will be eligible to win a prize by participating in a scavenger hunt for a cow on campus.

Ag Day is free and open to the public.
