Tim Floen
Instructor of Engineering Technology
Tim Floen serves as instructor of engineering technology at Dordt University, teaching courses such as Programmable Controls and Machine Interfaces, Controls and Automation, and Introduction to Electricity and Electronics.
Floen sees mechanical expertise as a way to expand creation for God’s glory.
“We work to grow God's Kingdom's through service,” Floen says. “Technical skills create not only a unique opportunity to serve others, but also to grow His kingdom through that service.”
Before coming to Dordt, Floen spent 14 years working in the industry, as a field operations manager, a sales engineer, and an electrical planner.
Turning from field experience to teaching, Floen taught for 12 years at Northwest Iowa Community College, where he earned an award as Outstanding Faculty of the Year.
Joining Dordt’s faculty in 2018, Floen focuses on developing leaders and thinkers capable of filling roles in the engineering industry.
“I hope to grow God’s kingdom through training the next generation of technical servant leaders,” Floen says.
Outside of teaching, Floen also advises the Defender Archery Club. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, remodeling homes, and spending time with his family.
