Dr. Rikki Brons

Professor of Language Studies

Dr. Rikki Brons serves as professor of language studies at Dordt University. She teaches Spanish at all levels, from Spanish 101 to upper levels of grammar and composition.

“My teaching is shaped by the belief that God created the world with His Word,” says Brons. “Words are powerful in any language, so learning language and its meaning in diverse contexts allows me to get to know and understand Him better each day.”

Brons brings a global perspective to the classroom, having earned a graduate degree in English in the United States and a graduate degree in Spanish in Spain. A native German speaker, she offers firsthand insight as a lifelong language learner and cultural explorer. She is passionate about sharing these experiences with students and continues to cultivate these interests through her own scholarship and service.

Prior to Dordt, Brons taught high school Spanish and German at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In addition to teaching, she led study abroad trips. She also served as a graduate course consultant and co-facilitator of a graduate learning community at Southwest Minnesota State.

Outside of the classroom, Brons serves on the Academic Program Review committee as well as the Teacher Preparation committee. She also mentors native Spanish speaking tutors as they support novice students in their study of Spanish language and culture.

In her free time, Brons enjoys watching and supporting her children in their music and sports endeavors and working on house projects and traveling with her husband.
