Dr. Rich Vyn

Professor of Agriculture

Rich Vyn serves as professor of agriculture at Dordt University, teaching courses on topics such as farm business management, commodity marketing, agricultural policy, and microeconomics, offering students both practical knowledge and a broader perspective rooted in Christian stewardship.

Drawing from a lifelong connection to farming, Vyn brings both practical and scholarly insight to his teaching—especially in the areas of agricultural business and economics.

“Because faith influences all aspects of our lives, I hope to help students understand the importance of financial resource management in the context of farm business, in order to use the resources God has given us in a stewardly manner,” adds Vyn.

Prior to joining Dordt, Vyn was a professor at the University of Guelph’s Ridgetown Campus in southern Ontario for 17 years, where he taught agricultural business and conducted research in agricultural and resource economics. His research interests continue to focus on values and the economics of agricultural production practices.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Vyn serves on Dordt’s graduate studies committee. Outside the classroom, he enjoys playing hockey, staying active, and spending time with his family.
