Kyle Lindbergh serves as Director of Athletic Development at Dordt University, where he partners with alumni, families, businesses, and friends of the university to support Dordt's athletic programs and the student-athletes who are part of them.
Kyle's connection to Dordt runs deep. He arrived in Sioux Center in 2010 as a basketball player, was part of strong Defender teams. He later went on to play two seasons of professional basketball in Perth, Western Australia. He returned to Dordt as interim women's basketball head coach before joining the men's program as an assistant, giving him a coach's understanding of what donor support actually makes possible for student-athletes.
That experience shapes how he thinks about his work today, as does his family history.
"My grandparents were among Dordt's first students in 1957 and met here," he says. "Their legacy and investment in Dordt over 60-plus years has inspired me to want to live like them as faithful stewards in the world of Christian education."
Looking forward motivates him just as much as looking back.
"The future of Dordt and generations of future Defenders inspires me to work diligently," he says. "With four young children at home, the future is more real to me now than ever."
For Kyle, fundraising is an extension of something larger than a job description.
"My calling is not to be a fundraiser; it is to know God," he says. "What an opportunity I have in meetings, travels, and connections through this work to attempt to live that out each day."
Outside of work, Kyle and his family spend time outdoors fishing, playing sports, and gathering around the backyard campfire. They keep the dinner table central to family life, finishing meals with Bible reading and what has become a household staple: the animal game, which visiting college students and families have reliably been recruited into playing.
