Kara Nutt
Instructor of Social Work & Master of Social Work Field Director
Kara Nutt serves as instructor of social work and master of social work field director at Dordt University.
In her role, Nutt teaches both the Foundation and Advanced Field Experience & Seminar courses in the MSW program and oversees students’ field placements in social work settings in the community. “In the Field Director role, I support students as they prepare for and engage in their field experiences,” adds Nutt. “I also work with agencies and supervisors, serving as a liaison between our social work agency partners and the MSW program.”
Prior to Dordt, Nutt worked in various social work contexts including juvenile justice, domestic violence, housing advocacy, and program development. Her research interests include the intersection of spiritual formation and mental health.
“I draw so many connections between the mission of social work—to enhance the well-being of all people, particularly those who are vulnerable, oppressed, or living in poverty—and God's desire for all of creation,” says Nutt. “I appreciate the opportunity to co-create with God in bringing about His kingdom through serving and advocating on behalf of the least of these.”
In her free time, Nutt enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, reading, podcasts, and being active with exercise.
