A Place for Dreams: Beloit Children's Hospital
The Beloit Children’s Home may be gone, but how has its legacy continued to live on?
Dr. James C. Schaap, Emeritus Professor of English, spent 39 years at Dordt, teaching all manner of English courses. When he graduated from Dordt in 1970, he wanted to write but he needed a job. He taught English in two high schools, rural and urban, finishing a masters. Then, in 1976, he returned to Dordt to teach. Since then, he's written all kinds of books—novels, short stories, histories, biographies, and devotionals. Since retiring, he's been writing for Sioux City's NPR station, KWIT, where his Small Wonders podcast continues, every Monday during the morning and evening news cast. Both alumni and retirees of Dordt, Schaap and his wife, Barbara, reside in Sioux Center, Iowa.
