Brock Hedegaard

Associate Professor of Engineering

Dr. Brock Hedegaard serves as an associate professor of engineering at Dordt University, where he supports the civil engineering and construction management programs. Hedegaard brings significant experience working with students on design projects and helps students develop the design, discernment, and judgment needed in the field of engineering. His teaching encourages students to consider how technology can further assist engineers while still requiring them to think about what they are seeking to accomplish in a responsive Christ-centered perspective.

"Engineering is an amazing calling. I love that we get to explore our God's often-surprising creation, and that we can use this knowledge to do so much good in the world," says Hedegaard.

His research interests include examining how structures move over the course of time, treating the built environment as his lab, focusing on monitoring and inspecting how existing structures behave out in the world.

Prior to his work at Dordt, Hedegaard spent  12 years teaching in different contexts: four years at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and eight at University of Minnesota Duluth. He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in the state of Wisconsin. Dedicated to helping others learn about structural engineering, Hedegaard continues to create teaching content on YouTube and Substack.
