Student-produced performance, Hotel Proznia, coming to Fourth Avenue Theatre

The community is invited to attend Hotel Próżnia, a student-led play directed by sophomores Sam Kamp and Bennett Visser, on October 30 and 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fourth Avenue Theatre.

“The Hotel Próżnia staff works long, mundane hours. Dusting, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, repeat. Working to keep face and satisfy guests. Dusting, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, repeat. After so much time working side by side feelings may start to grow. Dusting, mopping, vacuuming, laundry, repeat. But does the uncertainty of expression outweigh the regret of silence? Plan a stay and watch the ordinary come alive,” says Sam Kamp.

Inspired by old vacuums on campus, the show is comparable to a silent film and is reliant on careful movement and puppeteer vacuums.

For Kamp, the show offers audience members a unique theater experience while highlighting the importance of original art and human connection in an increasingly technology-driven world. “I think we are creating an experience that nobody will have seen before,” he says. “Original art like what we are trying to do is so important in a society that keeps pushing AI and disconnection through technology.”

The performance is free and open to the public, with general admission seating beginning when doors open at 7:15 p.m.
