Small Ensembles Recital to be held on December 2

Small Ensembles Recital will be held on Friday, December 2, 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The recital will feature two of Dordt University’s curricular small ensembles: the Saxophone Ensemble and the Clarinet Choir.

The Dordt Clarinet Choir will perform two works, the Weber Clarinet Quintet, Op. 34 and Klezmer Suite by Coen Wolfgram. The Weber Clarinet Quintet will feature a different soloist for each of the four movements. The soloists include social work major Klara Blacker, history major Kirsten Buiter, agriculture major Molly Galema, and computer science major Courtney Joiner. Nia Hoekstra, a nursing major, is the fifth member of the group.

The Saxophone Ensemble will perform the very regal Queen of Sheba Sax Quartet by Handel, transcribed by Kenneth Abeling, and the well-known funeral jazz arrangement of "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" arr. for saxophone by Thomas H. Graf with added trap set. "Snowfall" by Chris Evan Hass is a picturesque arrangement that depicts the beauty of a gentle snowfall. The ensemble will round out its portion of the recital with a Celtic Suite by G. Whitlock that includes just plain fun! Members of the ensemble include psychology major Sarah Goetsch, business major Brody Joens, nursing major Sierra Meyer, environmental science major Annika Rynders, and psychology major Kayla Zevenbergen.
