Sioux Center Arts to present Opera Iowa’s Cinderella at Dordt University

"Dordt’s willingness to collaborate and provide the B.J. Haan Auditorium made this event possible for our community.”

In collaboration with Sioux Center Arts, Dordt University will host the Des Moines Metro Opera’s Opera Iowa! for a lively performance of Cinderella on Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and enjoy an evening of gorgeous music and fairy-tale magic. Kids are also invited to dress up and get pictures with the cast after the performance. The event is open to the public, and admission will be offered as a freewill donation.

Opera Iowa’s touring production of Cinderella is a family-friendly adaptation by Joshua Borths featuring music by Gioachino Rossini and Jules Massenet. Designed to be engaging and family-friendly, the one-hour performance blends humor, singing, and theatrical charm to introduce audiences to the world of opera.

“Hosting artists from Des Moines Metro Opera gives our community a wonderful opportunity to experience professional opera close to home,” Sioux Center Arts Director Cailan Matthews says. “Not everyone has the chance to travel to larger cities for performances like this, so we’re excited to bring this classic story and beautiful music to Sioux Center.”

Sioux Center Arts is incredibly grateful that Dordt University will host this performance, Matthews adds. “As with many of our arts events, finding an available venue can be one of the biggest challenges. Dordt’s willingness to collaborate and provide the B.J. Haan Auditorium made this event possible for our community.”

Matthews hopes audience members will leave feeling inspired and delighted by the magic of live performance. “My hope is that people enjoy the humor, the beautiful music, and the storytelling—and that it sparks a deeper appreciation for the performing arts.”
