Sioux Center is named the 2021 safest town in Iowa by safewise.com

Safewise.com has named Sioux Center the safest town in the state of Iowa for 2021. This ranking is based on FBI crime statistics and population data and is calculated from violent and property crime numbers. According to the site, Sioux Center residents have a 0.4% chance of experiencing a violent crime, a 2.7% chance of experiencing a property crime, and a 3.1% chance of experiencing any type of crime.

Even though Dordt is in a low-crime area, the institution takes safety seriously, says Dean of Students Robert Taylor.

“Dordt has an incredible relationship with local law enforcement agencies,” he says. “As a result, a professional police presence is typically only about 80 seconds away from campus at any given point. We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with all emergency services in the area, including Sioux Country Sheriff’s Department, Police Department, Fire Department, the EMT team, Sioux Center Health, and Promise Health.”

Dordt has its own campus security, which is comprised of students; many students who work in campus security go on to become law enforcement officers in future careers. They work in partnership with the Residence Life staff to uphold the policies outlined in the Student Handbook. Additionally, Dordt typically has one to three EMTs on campus who also happen to be Dordt students.

As an institution of higher education committed to the Reformed Christian perspective, Dordt University equips students, faculty, alumni, and the broader community to work toward Christ-centered renewal in all aspects of contemporary life. Dordt, located in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive university named to the best college lists by U.S. News and World Report, Forbes.com, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review.
