Dordt University to host "Dordt Writes" event on October 16

Dordt University will host “Dordt Writes,” an event highlighting recent faculty scholarship and research, on Friday, October 16 from 3 – 4 p.m.  

The event, hosted in the Hulst Library, will include lightning talks and panel discussions with faculty participants.  

The lightning talks will include: 

"Teaching Turns into Scholarship: The Journal of Technology Integrated Lessons and Teaching" by Professor of Education Dr. Dave Mulder 

JTILT is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes case studies of technology-rich learning experiences, encouraging educators at all levels to share real examples of technology integration, including lesson plans, supporting materials, and reflections on what worked well and potential revisions we might include the next time we teach it. Dave will share about three pieces he has published in this journal over the past two years.  

"Tracing Silicate Cloud Formation in a Cool Substellar World" by Professor of Chemistry and Planetary Science Dr. Channon Visscher 

In this paper, we use the surprising JWST detection of silane (SiH₄) in W1534 - an object otherwise known as “The Accident” - as a chemical tracer to explore the behavior of rocky clouds hidden deep within its atmosphere.

   "Can Reformed Theology and Contemporary Worship Music Harmonize?" by Professor of Theology and Worship Arts Rev. Dr. Jeremy Perigo 

In this presentation, we will unpack the language, structure, and lyrical theology of the most popular contemporary worship songs that emerge from a self-consciously Reformed stance, the Getty Platform.  

"What keeps it all together? Testing the Strong Interaction" by Associate Professor of Engineering and Physics Dr. Jason Ho 

The force that holds every atom together is also one of the least understood in nature, and searching for new forms of matter is one way to find out how much we really know. 

“Dordt Writes” highlights the university’s commitment to Christian scholarship and the ongoing work of faculty who are contributing thoughtfully to conversations in their respective fields. 

The event is free and open to the public.
