Dordt University students Bryce Wick and Mercea Rediger will give a joint organ and vocalist recital on September 27 at 7 p.m.
Bryce Wick, a junior majoring in nursing with minors in organ performance and biomedical sciences, along with Mercea Rediger, a junior majoring in social work, will give a joint recital on Saturday, September 27 at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
Wick, originally from Eagle, Idaho, studied at the Noordbroek Organ Academy in the Netherlands during the summer of 2023. Additionally, he was an organ scholar at First Presbyterian Church in Boise, Idaho during the summer of 2025. He has also participated in masterclasses by Wayne Marshall, Jeffrey Brillhart, Willem Van Twillert, Alexander Meszler, and Marco den Toom.
Wick will perform a selection of music including a choral variation of “If You But Trust in God to Guide You,” a movement of an organ concerto by J.S. Bach, a prelude and fugue by Felix Mendelssohn, and a toccata by Dieterich Buxtehude. “I heard both the chorale variation and toccata when I studied organ in the Netherlands and immediately fell in love with both,” says Wick. “Now I am so excited that I have the opportunity to perform them!”
Rediger, a soprano vocalist from Marion, Iowa, will sing a selection of music, ranging from classic songs to musical theatre tunes. “There is also a foreign language section with multiple operatic pieces, some slow, some quicker to keep them interesting even if they aren’t as understandable as an English piece,” says Rediger. “We placed that set first to start things off, rolling into a second set of classical English pieces. Finally, we have a musical theatre set that finishes with a duet from Wicked. Rediger will be accompanied by Ella Huisinga for a soprano duet in “For Good.”
The recital will conclude with a collaborative piece with both Wick and Rediger, joined by Karlie Vreugdenhil and Jennifer Frens on violin.
A reception will follow the recital, and the public is invited to attend.
