Dordt University hosts 2025 Math Challenge for area high school students

Dordt University hosted 102 high school students from 11 schools for the 2025 Math Challenge on October 9, where participants competed in individual and team math exams, attended breakout sessions with Dordt faculty, and explored future opportunities in mathematics.

On October 9, Dordt University hosted 102 high school students from 11 schools for the 2025 Dordt University Math Challenge, an annual event that gives students the opportunity to test their mathematical skills through individual and team competitions, connect with Dordt faculty, and explore career opportunities in math and related fields.

Students first participated in an individual exam, followed by a team exam. Participants also heard a presentation from Dordt’s admissions team and attended afternoon breakout sessions led by Dordt mathematics faculty and admissions staff. Session topics ranged from creative problem-solving and mathematical applications to hands-on learning experiences designed to show how mathematics connects to real-world challenges.

12th Grade:

3rd – Madison Eichler (Brandon Valley)
4th – William Breems (Unity Christian)

11th Grade:
1st – Kole Bleyenburg (Sioux Falls Christian)
2nd – Karson Work (Sioux Center)
3rd – Jacoby Vermeer (Sioux Center)
4th – BreLee Rasmussen (South O’Brien)

Team Results

1st

2nd – Southwest Minnesota Christian (Victoria Prins, Danika Nordby, Lydia Talsma, and Carson Rozeboom)
3rd – Brandon Valley (Austin Preheim, Otto Winters, and Max Bulatao)

Each year, the Math Challenge welcomes juniors and seniors from across the region to Dordt’s campus for a day of problem-solving, competition, and community. The event also includes professional growth and networking opportunities for teachers who accompany their students.
