Dordt University begins work on the Fourth Avenue Townhomes

“The mild winter weather has provided an opportunity for an early start to the townhome project,” says Fred Verwoerd, vice president of operations. “The land has been prepared, and the footings and foundation of the first building have been set. With the weather cooperating, we should see steady progress on the project."

Work for the Fourth Avenue Townhomes has begun on the campus of Dordt University.

“The mild winter weather has provided an opportunity for an early start to the townhome project,” says Fred Verwoerd, vice president of operations. “The land has been prepared, and the footings and foundation of the first building have been set. With the weather cooperating, we should see steady progress on the project. Watch for the foundation of the second building to go in soon, and the work on the walls to begin thereafter.”

The townhomes, which are slated to be finished by the fall 2024 semester, will be comprised of two buildings connected by a small storage and mechanical area. Each building will have three 2-bedroom units and two 1-bedroom units. There will also be a rooftop patio.

“The townhomes will have a different look and feel than other apartments and dorms on campus,” says Josh Dorhout, director of facilities and service. “They will have more of an independent feel since they are on the very edge of our campus.”

Dordt students recently got a sneak peek at drawings and designs of the townhomes. Vice President for Student Success and Dean of Students Robert Taylor says that students appreciated the open layout of the main level and how much the space felt like home.

“Having a front and back door also makes the space feel more like a home in a neighborhood,” adds Taylor. “Plus, they love the rooftop patio!”

Construction is being completed by Vision Builders.
