Dordt University announces summer campus improvement projects

“We’re working hard to make upgrades to the campus so that when students return in the fall, they have an enhanced experience here on campus as well,” says Fred Verwoerd.

This summer, Dordt University is continuing several campus improvement projects aimed at enhancing student life, expanding campus spaces, and improving accessibility and parking across campus.

Projects taking place over the coming months include renovations to residence halls, expanded parking areas, updates to academic spaces, and continued work on outdoor gathering areas.

“We’re continuing to look for ways to improve the student experience across campus,” says Vice President of Operations Fred Verwoerd. “Some of these projects are highly visible, while others happen behind the scenes, but together they help us steward the campus well and prepare for future growth.”

Among the academic updates planned for this summer is an expansion of Dordt’s cadaver lab, which supports hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare, nursing, and related fields.

Outdoor improvements are also underway near the Squares Apartments, where landscaping work and a new quad area will create additional gathering space for students. According to Verwoerd, the university is also continuing efforts to make campus spaces more welcoming and student-centered.

“We’re working hard to make upgrades to the campus so that when students return in the fall, they have an enhanced experience here on campus as well,” says Verwoerd.

Residence hall renovations will include updates to the first-floor bathrooms in both North Hall and East Hall. The parking lot near East Hall will also be removed and converted into green space as part of broader campus landscaping efforts.

Several parking adjustments are also planned for the upcoming academic year. Commuter student parking will move to the parking lot near the B.J. Haan Auditorium, helping free up additional parking for employees closer to central campus buildings. Additional parking spots are being added near the Theatre Arts Building, and visitor parking near the Campus Center loop will also expand, adding approximately 47 new visitor parking spaces.

Many of the projects are expected to be completed before students return to campus this fall.
