Dordt seniors merge fine art and graphic design in collaborative rebranding exhibit

Dordt University will host a senior art exhibit featuring the work of Kylie Van Iddekinge and Brooklyn Leusink, titled “Beauty in Every Season” at the entrance to the Zylstra Nursing Education Center. The exhibit will be on display beginning December 11, and an artist reception will be held on Friday, December 12, at 7 p.m.

Together, the artists developed a full rebrand for Holland Flower Farm—from a new logo to a complete set of branding and marketing materials—showcasing their combined strengths in graphic design, fine art, and visual storytelling. Their work blends both artistic and strategic approaches.

Van Iddekinge, a senior graphic design and entrepreneurship major from Greeley, Colorado, sees the project as an opportunity to bridge fine art techniques with purposeful branding. “I approached this project both aesthetically and strategically, blending fine art techniques, including watercolor and photography, with brand strategy to create a unified story,” she says. “The contrast of the soft, organic strokes of watercolor to the structured layouts and typography reflects the organic nature of the farm and the systematic organization of each petal on a flower. Together, these different elements represent the harmony that can be found between the world of fine art and the technical aspects of graphic design.”

Leusink, a senior graphic design and marketing major from Orange City, Iowa, hopes that her art mirrors the spirit of growth that has shaped her own creativity, faith, and sense of purpose at Dordt. “The design choices mirror the organic, delicate, yet lively nature of flowers, combining natural forms with vibrant color to communicate life and joy,” she says. “I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Jade Hubers, the owner of Holland Flower Farm. Collaborating with her has been such a meaningful part of this project, as it reflects the very heart of what flowers do — they bring people together.”

“This project is more than creating a new visual identity; it is about creating a story and experience that reflects the beauty and rhythm found in creation,” says Van Iddekinge.
