Dordt University’s Agriculture Club will host its annual Ag Day on Friday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a hands-on opportunity for community members of all ages to engage with agriculture.
The event, which is open to the public, will feature displays of agricultural equipment and a variety of barnyard animals, including goats, pigs, cattle, and more. Designed to be both educational and interactive, Ag Day invites attendees to learn about the role agriculture plays in everyday life.
“It is important that students in the Agriculture Department continue to host Ag Day because of the opportunities for connection it creates,” says Emma Rusk, head student coordinator of Ag Day. “It brings together people who are familiar with agriculture and those who aren’t, creating space to learn about crops, livestock, equipment, and other important aspects of the field.”
New this year, Dordt will also host an Ag Day 5K. The race begins at 6:15 a.m. at the Clock Tower. The race is designed to welcome additional community members to campus ahead of the day’s events. Participants can enjoy dairy products and donuts at the finish line, and early registrants will receive a free T-shirt.
“In the early stages of planning, we were looking for ways to connect with more people,” Rusk says. “The idea of a 5K came up, and we’re excited to offer something new that brings people to campus in hopes of sharing what agriculture means to us.”
In addition to the day’s activities, attendees may purchase a pulled pork meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meal prices are $5, and Dordt students may purchase a meal for $5 using Defender Dollars. Children ages four and under are free.
“Working alongside my peers to create a day centered on something we’re passionate about is a blessing,” she says. “We’re intentional in our planning, and we hope Ag Day creates a space where people can learn, connect, and make lasting memories.”
