A mid-summer update on Dordt’s campus construction

Campus enhancements at Dordt University continue through upgraded athletic and dining facilities, new housing, and inviting outdoor spaces, reflecting the institution’s commitment to whole-life preparation.

This fall, Dordt University will welcome students, faculty, and visitors into an improved campus environment as a series of interconnected projects reaches completion. From enhanced athletic and dining facilities to new housing, classrooms, and outdoor gathering spaces, the upgrades reflect Dordt’s vision of “whole‑life preparation” by fostering community, wellness, and hands‑on learning.

Rozeboom Family Athletic Center

Work on the Rozeboom Family Athletic Center continues, says Fred Verwoerd, Vice President of Operations. “With the structural bump‑out complete, we’re now finalizing the training courts, locker rooms, and adjoining office and team rooms.”

Those who would like to make use of the Rec Center should continue entering via the north entrance. Sometime this fall, Dordt staff hope to reopen the main south entrance of the space.

The Atrium

Across from the athletic center, The Atrium—Dordt’s new dining hall—will transition to full service in August. Students will enjoy the expansive views and updated kitchen facilities designed to enhance the campus dining experience.

In mid‑October, the new performing arts hall will open, with advanced acoustic treatments and newly installed seating creating a state‑of‑the‑art venue for concerts, lectures, and community events.

The Cottages

On the residential side, the cottages are set to go online in early August.

“One interesting note about the cottages is that they are technically three different shades of earth tones,” explains Verwoerd. “They’re the same color family, but with slight color variations, they add a bit of variety and creativity.”

The Amphitheatre

Tying the campus together is a new outdoor amphitheater and seating areas. Carved into the natural slope of the landscape, the amphitheater features a sculpted seat wall. Adjacent sidewalks flanked by concrete benches offer additional spots for lunch, study, or social gatherings—and even the occasional al fresco lecture.

“These improvements showcase our commitment to supporting students’ physical, intellectual, and social growth,” Verwoerd says. “From athletics and academics to everyday outdoor life, we’re creating spaces that build connection and creativity across our campus.”
