(Sioux Center, Iowa) Dillon Peters became the all-time hits leader as Dordt College nipped Northwestern 9-8 in game two of the baseball doubleheader played in Sioux Center on Saturday, April 25. Dordt came from behind to win and held off a Northwestern rally in the seventh to preserve the victory.

Peters wasted no time in breaking the record after tying it in game one with two hits. Peters had a line drive up the middle in the first inning for his 153rd hit in a Dordt uniform and passed Beau Bosma for first all-time in the category. Inning two had Dordt break through for four runs when Eric Anderson and Ben Fife singled. A Morgan Halpert bunt moved them up and Phillip Sears was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Eric Torgerson singled in two runs and was later knocked in when Travis Feekes singled in a pair for a 4-0 lead. Northwestern countered with five runs in the top of the third, capitalizing on three bases on balls to take the lead. After a scoreless bottom of the third and top of the fourth the Defenders took the lead for good when Travis Feekes reached on a fielder's choice and went from first to third on a wild pitch. Dillon Peters then delivered a single that scored Feekes. Travis Dekkers and Josh Bowers both walked to load the bases and Anderson clubbed a single that gave Dordt the lead. Dekkers scored on a wild pitch and Ben Fife grounded out allowing Bowers to score.

Northwestern got a solo homerun in the sixth but the Defenders had an answer as Peters doubled to the gap in right-center and gave way to pinch-runner Patrick Sinnema. Sinnema moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Josh Bowers sacrifice fly. As it turned out Dordt needed the insurance with Austin Malone drawing Northwestern to 9-8 with a two run homerun with nobody out. Chase Dieleman was able to coax the next two batters into fly ball outs and after an error got the final batter out on a grounder to second.

Dordt got a 3-3 game from Peters who ends his career with 155 hits. The senior from Centennial, Colorado had an rbi in the win while Eric Anderson, Ben Fife and Eric Torgerson all had two hits. Travis Feekes had a base hit with two runs batted in.

Bryan Diemer was the winning pitcher with five plus innings of work and allowed seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Chase Dieleman recorded the save after working two innings of relief with two hits allowed and two walks. Jared Kirkeby absorbed the loss for Northwestern after pitching one and a third and allowed four runs with two walks and four hits in the middle innings.

Dordt ends the season 10-33 overall and 4-20 in the GPAC.
