Dordt College Women's Volleyball vs. Bellevue

(Newton, Kansas) The Dordt College Lady Defender Volleyball team received an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida this evening by defeating Bellevue in NAIA Region IV semi-final volleyball action. The Lady Defenders put up a tough front in the match, winning in three games, 15-4, 15-11, 15-13. A.J. Poppema led the defensive with 18 digs, 30/30 on serve recieve, and had four block assists and one solo block in the victory. Sophomore Alisa Kooima had seven ace serves and was 22/23 from the service line. Kooima also had 49 assists in the match. Dordt was led offensively by Senior Karen Netz who pounded 17 kills. The Bellevue Bruins fall to 29-11 on the season. The Lady Defenders advance to the NAIA Region IV finals with a record of 31-6. NAIA Region IV does get two National Tournament bids for sure (Saint Mary and Dordt), and a possible third (Concordia or Bellevue). Dordt advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in 1995 and 1998, and finished in the Elite Eight in 1998. Tom Van Den Bosch is in his fourth year as Dordt's head volleyball coach.
