 ![]() Troy Ellens earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Dordt University before pursuing a Master of Science in Respiratory Care at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Since 2013, he has worked as a respiratory therapist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He also serves as a deacon at Ascension Reformed Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ellens and his wife, Charity, have three children: Samantha, Aubrey, and Oliver.
