Ross Douma
Director of Athletics
I currently serve as Director of Athletics at Dordt University. In 2009, I was named Men's Basketball Coach and Assistant Professor of Health & Human Performance, which I held until 2018. I have since transitioned from the coaching box to assume the Director of Athletics position. Prior to Dordt, I was involved in secondary education at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn high school (IA), Chicago Christian high school (IL), and Waukee high school (IA). In addition to coaching at each stop, I also taught classes in Social Studies and Physical Education as well as serving as Assistant Principal at Chicago Christian high school. I completed my Master's Degree in Education Administration at Governor's State University in University Park, Illinois, in 2006.
Since joining the Dordt community in June 2009; I have taught courses in the Health & Human Performance Department while also serving as assistant athletic director from 2013-2017. On the hardwood, the Defender men's basketball teams enjoyed the opportunity to compete in the NAIA national tournament in 2012, 2013, 2014. In each of those years, the squad has also captured Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season or conference tournament championships.
In addition to promoting holistic athletics at Dordt University, via the Defender Way, I enjoy speaking at regional civic functions, high school graduations and area churches when my time permits.
