Brenda Zylstra

Assistant Professor of Business

Brenda Zylstra serves as assistant professor of business at Dordt University. She teaches courses such as Business Law, HR Management, and Business Writing.

Before coming to Dordt, Zylstra practiced law for two years and spent 26 years providing legal counsel to Frontier Bank in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Now, her role as a teacher allows her to engage with her students and form meaningful relationships with them.

“I strive to see students as individual creations of God so I can better teach them to see His organization of our lives, His mercy, and His justice through our legal system,” explains Zylstra.

Licensed to practice law in Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota, and a member of the Bar Associations of those states, Zylstra’s areas of expertise include contracts and secured transactions.

In addition to volunteering at her church, Zylstra serves multiple local and non-profit organizations.

Outside of teaching, Zylstra and her family raise row crops under the name of Zhe Farm. She also enjoys spending time in the garden and playing music and games with her family.
