Dordt University's Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series will welcome Dr. Michael Bauer and Dr. Marie Rubis Bauer for a lecture, organ masterclass, and evening recital on October 21 and 23 in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. Together, they bring extensive experience in church music and organ performance, and both maintain active careers as performers and recording artists.

Dr. Marie Rubis Bauer served for 23 years as Archdiocesan Director of Music at St. Cecilia's Cathedral in Omaha, Nebraska, which is also the home to a landmark dual-temperament organ built by renowned organ builder Martin Pasi. An early music specialist, she co-founded both the Omaha Bach Festival and Omaha Baroque.

Dr. Michael Bauer is Professor Emeritus at the University of Kansas. He developed a comprehensive curriculum in church music and organ literature, served as artistic director of the Bales Chorale, and taught organ, harpsichord, and conducting at the undergraduate through doctoral levels. He is the author of several books, including works on arts ministry in the church, and maintains an active career as a church musician and scholar.

On Wednesday, October 21, Dr. Michael Bauer will present a lecture on his forthcoming book about practicing the organ. The lecture will take place in the B.J. Haan Auditorium from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. and will be of particular interest to organ students and church musicians.

On Friday, October 23, Dr. Michael Bauer and Dr. Marie Rubis Bauer will lead an organ masterclass from 11:10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium, working directly with Dordt organ students while others are free to observe. At 7 p.m. that same evening, the Bauers will present an organ recital featuring works by Sweelinck, Böhm, Buxtehude, and Bach. Audience members are invited to participate by singing a chorale provided in the program.

Now in its fourteenth year, the Joan Ringerwole Organ Recital Series was established through the generosity of Dr. Joan Ringerwole, Professor Emerita of Organ and Church Music at Dordt University. The series is intended to promote the organ and its collection of works for the education and enjoyment of students, alumni, and the broader community.

The events are free to attend and open to the public.
