Dordt University’s annual “While We Were Out” art exhibit is on display in the Campus Center Art Gallery, now through September 29.
This year’s exhibit features 64 unique works, showcasing a range of creative disciplines, including photography, painting, ceramics, woodworking, quilting, jewelry, digital art, digital media and videography, and drawing and illustration. The submissions represent a wide range of perspectives from across campus, including students, employees, employee family members, and alumni.
“This annual exhibit reflects the Imago Dei - The Image of God,” says David Platter, professor of art and design at Dordt. “As image-bearers, we have been created and called to create. This creative endeavor often happens in our own little corners and quiet encounters, but to share our creativity and illuminate our community with our creations is to engage in something so generous, if also vulnerable.”
“These acts reflect something of God’s nature as creator and in one setting, the ‘While We Were Out’ exhibit gives all of us a glimpse of the things that individuals within our community ponder and pour themselves into,” adds Platter. “I like to think of it as a small taste of heaven."
To recognize the artists and their contribution to the gallery and broader community, a reception will be held in the gallery on Thursday, September 24, beginning at 7 p.m. This reception is open to the public and free to attend.
