# Dordt to Host Virtual Math Bee

Dordt hosts upcoming virtual Math Bee

 

 

 

 ![]()Dordt University’s Mathematics and Statistics Department will be hosting the 2021 Dordt Math Bee virtually on May 11-12. Due to the virtual nature, the Math Bee will not limit the number of teams that can compete from each school.

The fourth and fifth grade bees will take place on May 11 from 9-11 a.m. The seventh and eighth grade bees will be held May 12 from 9-11 a.m.

This contest offers both individual and team events and emphasizes the standards for mathematical practice such as problem solving, perseverance, and reasoning abstractly.

“One of the unique things about this opportunity is that not only do your students have the chance to explore mathematics, but they’re also pushing themselves against the other students who are taking the test,” says Dr. Zonnefeld, associate professor of mathematics. “They get to see how they stack up, and that’s really motivating for some students.”

Each teacher will share the Zoom event with their students and serve as a proctor during the tests.

“It is so much fun for us to watch the students work through a problem, and argue with each other, and just really challenge themselves in that way,” says Zonnefeld.
