Haan Auditorium. Nineteen bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) students from the class of 2024 will be awarded their Dordt University nursing pin. The event speaker will be Jill Rye, DNP. Rye serves as a clinical nurse leader of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at [Avera McKennan Hospital](https://www.avera.org/locations/mckennan/) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Rye has many certifications, including as an ARN Fellow Designation (FARN), the most distinguished level of membership within the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses, and as a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN). She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from Augustana University and a DNP in Nursing Leadership from American Sentinel, Post University in Aurora, Colorado. The pinning ceremony for nursing students has a long history dating back to Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. “Today, we continue the tradition of recognizing the dedication of time and effort that our nursing students committed to in order to achieve their BSN. Our pin depicts the cross of Christ, and his enfolding love, guiding our students to likewise enfold patients in their care,” says Dr. Kate Vander Veen, professor of nursing.
