# Dordt music education student to give trumpet recital on November 1

Maren Hettinga, a senior studying K-12 music education at Dordt University, will give a trumpet recital on Saturday, November 1. The recital will feature a variety of arrangements, including an original trumpet fanfare by Dr. Onsby Rose.

 ![]()Maren Hettinga, a senior studying K-12 instrumental music education at Dordt University, will give a trumpet recital on Saturday, November 1 at 7 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The recital is free to attend and open to the public. A public reception will also be held following the recital.

The recital will include well-known arrangements, such as Alexander Arutunian’s Concerto for Trumpet, as well as original music, including the premiere of a trumpet fanfare written by Dr. Onsby Rose, professor of music and director of instrumental ensembles at Dordt.

“The repertoire I’ve chosen reflects a balance of technical challenge, emotional expression, powerful energy, and beautiful melodies showcased on the trumpet,” says Hettinga.

Hettinga will also be joined by several fellow student-musicians contributing to various ensemble and chamber works. Performers include Tori Ensink (accompanist), Nathan Adams, Ella Jahn, and Grace Vander Beek (trumpets), Blake Hoogeveen (French horn), Lucy Borofka and Noah Van Raalte (trombones), Brett Van Gelder (tuba), Josiah Vos (piano), Aidan Kraft (bass), Brody Joens (tenor sax), and Joana Franca Correia (drums).
