The event will be held on Saturday, February 15 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center at Dordt. Featuring Broadway tunes and sweet treats, “Broadway and Desserts” will include solo songs and a few duets from several popular Broadway shows as well as delectable desserts served by Concert Choir members. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for students. Kids five years old and under are free, and childcare is available on-site. Tickets must be purchased by Tuesday Feb. 11 from the [Music Department Office](mailto:debra.alons@dordt.edu) (712-722-6222) or from a Concert Choir student. Proceeds benefit the Concert Choir tour in March 2025 to Michigan and Ontario. ![](https://d3evso2dxyohou.cloudfront.net/generalUploads/2023-24/DSC0282-crop.jpg?mode=fit&pos=center-center&w=57&h=65&c=8cac9963&v=2a7bff4cc88d9c8028780f8aefc27ccc471a282a3c362ef755b65c8c6dfd9e16) Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music Dr. Ryan Smit thinks the audience will appreciate the variety that “Broadway and Desserts” offers. “This event allows Dordt students opportunities to perform that are unique and different from our other large ensemble concerts: they can sing solos, duets, or small groups; they can choose their own repertoire; and the Broadway repertoire is a bit lighter and more popular in nature while still giving them a good challenge to work on and a good story to tell.” The Concert Choir tour at Dordt is a longstanding tradition – for many, an integral part of their Dordt experience. There are several goals of the Concert Choir tour, including that, as the tour handbook explains, “we are going to share with as many people as possible (through our song *and* staying with them) the joy that is ours as sons and daughters of the King. That is the most rewarding part of the tour!” In addition to representing Dordt University well, the choir’s primary role is to “be an outstanding choir, performing as well as possible at every opportunity.” Smit adds that choir is beneficial because students get to work with professional conductors and ensembles, perform in world-class venues when possible, and do some sightseeing. “As you can tell, these tours have many goals and outcomes,” says Smit. “Many find the tours to be exciting, rewarding and—although at times tiring—a wonderful opportunity to build relationships and their musical acumen.” --- **About Dordt University** As an institution of higher education committed to the Reformed Christian perspective, Dordt University equips students, faculty, alumni, and the broader community to work toward Christ-centered renewal in all aspects of contemporary life.
