An artist reception will be held on May 11 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and the event is open to the public. “Jewels of the City” is an embodiment of the foundations of the new city depicted in Revelations 21, says Broersma. Using photography, color, and light, each of the 12 monochromatic portraits invites the viewer to put themselves into the pieces and view humanity as valued creations made in the image of God. “I decided to create this show due to my interest in monochromatic portraits,” says Broersma. “I often associate people with specific colors, and I wanted to work off of this fascination. I specifically chose each of the models in association with the color of gemstones in Revelation 21.” Why focus a show on Revelation 21? “Well, I find the passage to be a hopeful prophecy of what I as a believer can look forward to after my life is over,” she explains. “It challenges me to be a Christ-like light so that more people can have this hope for life after death with Christ.” **About Dordt University** As an institution of higher education committed to the Reformed Christian perspective, Dordt University equips students, faculty, alumni, and the broader community to work toward Christ-centered renewal in all aspects of contemporary life.
