Men's Track and Field - GPAC Outdoor Championship Preview

The Event...The Defenders men's track and field team will compete in the 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship this weekend.

The two-day event will take place at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Doane University in Crete, Neb.

Competition gets underway on Friday afternoon, May 6, with the javelin at 4pm. A total of four events and four running events will continue throughout the day on Friday. The two-day championship concludes on Saturday, May 7 beginning at noon.

THE COMPETITION:

All GPAC schools that have track and field are scheduled to compete. 

There are a total of 22 events scored at the outdoor championship, with the top eight individual places scoring points for their team (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). The team with the most points  after all of the events have finished wins the GPAC Championship.

The top eight finishers in each event earn all-conference honors.

LAST YEAR: 

The Defenders placed second out of 11 teams at the 2021 Championship, totaling 137 points, 30 ahead of third place Northwestern. Doane won the team title with 235.5 points. 

Defender athletes won three individual events and two relays:

  • 4x400 (Wagner, Brands, Mauldin, Van Eps)
  • 4x800 (Van Zee, Zevenbergen, Merkle, Mauldin)
