Baseball Hosts Concordia In Four GPAC Games This Weekend


Dordt is scheduled to play two doubleheaders with Concordia in GPAC baseball on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22.  The Thursday twinbill gets underway at 1:00 and the Friday contests will start at 4:00.

The Concordia Bulldogs are 25-12-1 this season and stand 14-6 in the GPAC.  The Bulldogs were cruising with a 12-1 conference record when the Morningside Mustangs beat them on April 8 in the back end of a doubleheader.  Concordia was then swept in back to back doubleheaders with Jamestown and Doane before getting back on the winning side of things with a pair of 4-1 wins over Mount Marty on April 16.

Alec Blakestead is batting .394 with four homeruns and 35 runs batted in. Joey Grabanski is batting .389 with nine homeruns and Tanner Tompkins is batting .386 with 31 runs batted in and four homeruns. Jayden Adams and Jaidan Quinn have 11 and 12 homeruns respectively and Adams is putting up player of the year type numbers with 44 runs batted in, 46 runs scored and 13 stolen bases while batting .381. Concordia is batting .332 as a team.

Alex Johnson is 5-0 on the hill with a 1.67 earned run average and 37 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts. Shane Whittaker is 3-2 with a 2.51 earned run average and Caden Johnson is 4-1 with a 3.13 earned run average and 46 innings pitched with 52 strikeouts. Caden Bugarske is 5-3 and has 47 strikeouts in 46 innings pitched.


The Defenders are 12-24 this season and 8-12 in the GPAC and part of a four team logjam fighting for the final three spots in the GPAC postseason tournament. Dordt is looking to snap a five game losing skid that has seen them go from 8-7 in the league to 8-12.

Logan Cline is batting .430 with 52 hits and seven homeruns with 19 runs batted in. Luke November has provided protection for Cline in the order with a .392 batting average and seven doubles and 38 hits. Chase Edwards has 25 hits and Nolan Christianson has 23 this with 19 runs scored which is second on the team.

Gyeongju Kim is 5-3 with a 2.76 earned run average and he has 98 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched. Logan Horne has put together three strong starts and is 2-6 despite sporting a 3.98 earned run average in 43 innings pitched and he has 52 strikeouts.


The Bulldogs were 4-1 winners over Mount Marty in a pair of games on April 16 to get a split of last weekends play. In game one Gutierrez was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and two hits allowed while four different Concordia players had one hit each. Game two saw Johnson pitched seven and a third innings with two hits and nine strikeouts. Six different Bulldogs had hits and Concordia was issued six walks in the win.

Dordt lost a 2-0 decision to Jamestown on Saturday with an unearned run in the second and a solo homerun in the fifth providing the difference for the Jimmies. Kim took the loss and struck out 11 and Dylan Stanley had two hits. In game two the Defenders were down 2-1 in the seventh when the Jimmies broke through for two more runs and the game eventually ended with in a 6-1 decision.


Concordia won four in the series last season in Seward  on March 26 and 27.
