Dordt senior to present harp recital April 23

Burgsma playing harp

The Dordt University Music Department is hosting the harp recital of senior Hannah Burgsma of Londesborough, Ontario, Canada on Saturday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.

Repertoire highlights include virtuosic renditions of Welsh and Irish traditional tunes by John Thomas and John Cheshire and classical works remastered for harp by renowned harpists such as Glinka, Grandjany, and Renie. This recital also features an original arrangement which weaves together three hymns beloved by many.

Burgsma is majoring in nursing with minors in music performance and biomedical science. In 2017, she was the Provincial Wide Canadian Harp Competition gold medalist, and she is currently principal harpist for the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra. Anna Vorhes has been her harp instructor at Dordt since 2018.
