Football Recruit Class Additions Announced

(Thursday, April 14; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Dordt football program has announced its most recent additions to the recruit class of incoming freshmen and brings the number of commits to recruiting class and 42 individuals make up that list.  

Commitments since February 2 

Tate Baker is a 6-1, 225 pound linebacker and defensive lineman and is a senior at Granbury High School (Texas).  He compiled 253 tackles for three seasons and had 41 tackles for loss with five sacks an interception and seven forced fumbles.  He earned all-district honors twice and claimed academic all-state honors while serving two seasons as team captain. Tate is the son of Trea and Rhonda Baker of Granbury, Texas and he plans to study engineering. 

Dylan DeMey is a 6-3, 275 pound offensive lineman who played for Carroll High School (Iowa).  Dylan is the son of Mark and Jane DeMey of Carroll, Iowa. He plans to study engineering.  

Kolson Kruse is a 6-0, 170 pound quarterback and safety from Southeast Valley (Iowa).  He accounted for over 4000 yards in 2021 with 2484 passing and 1573 passing and had 28 touchdown passes and 19 rushing and threw just three interceptions.  He earned Class 2A first-team all-state honors and was named Elite All-State as a utility player.  Kruse was named the mvp of the Iowa High School state playoffs and helped Southeast Valley to a state title in class 2A and holds 24 school records in football. A multi-sport athlete, Kruse has earned first-team all-conference honors in basketball and baseball  and is the leading three-point shooter in school history and owns the batting average record at his school at .448.   Kolson is the son of Pat and Michelle Kruse of Gowrie, Iowa. He plans to study finance.  

Ivan Orozco is a 6-0, 210 pound kicker from Iowa Falls-Alden (Iowa). He was a three-time all-district pick and earned second-team all-state honors in 2021 while also claiming academic all-state accolades.  Orozco converted 93 percent  of his point after tries in and 70 percent of his field goals in 2020 and 2021. He plans to study engineering and is the son of Jose and Veronica Orozco from Iowa Falls, Iowa.  

February 2022 commitments

Grant Austin, a senior at Liberty High School (California) , is listed 5-9, 170 pounds and played running back, linebacker and safety.  Austin was a part of a Valley championship team and a state finalist and was named player of the year.  Grant is the son of Lance Austin and Laura Martinez of Bakersfield, California.  He plans to study criminal justice.  

Brad Bellis is a senior at West Monona High School (Iowa) and is listed as a 6-2, 180 pound wide receiver and defensive back.  Bellis caught 81 passes during his career for 1,450 yards and 14 touchdowns. In 2020 he was a first-team all-district selection and a fourth-team all-district pick.  In 2021 he claimed second-team all-district honors.   Brad is the son of Anna and Shawn Bellis of  Onawa, Iowa and he is undecided on a field of study.  

Bubba Bogart is a senior at Oak Park High School (Missouri) and is a 6-2, 175 pound wide receiver and safety.  Bogart had 705 receiving yards with nine touchdowns in 2021 and he earned second-team all-conference and all-district honors. Bubba is the son of Barry and Maria Bogart of Cardiff By The Sea California.  He plans to study business. 

Noah Bronner is a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa) and is a 6-3, 230 pound offensive and defensive lineman.  He was an academic all-state selection and earned first-team all-district in 2021 after totaling 32 tackles. Noah is the son of David and Cheryl Bronner of Sioux Center, Iowa and he plans to study accounting. 

Levi Koopmans is a senior at West Sioux High School (Iowa) and is 5-9, 172 pounds.  Koopmans has played wide receiver, running back and linebacker and had 49 tackles with 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 quarterback sacks.  He was a first-team all-district pick and second-team all-state selection while also earning first-team all-state honors.  Koopmans was a part of a state runner-up finisher in 2021 and a district champion.  He’s the son of Jim and Mary Koopmans of Ireton, Iowa and he plans to study agriculture and business.  

Tyson Kube is a senior at Martin Luther High School (Minnesota) and is listed 5-11, 195 pounds and has played fullback, defensive line and linebacker.  He had 28 tackles and three sacks and served as team captain his senior season. Kube was a part of three district championship teams, two conference title winners and a pair of state playoff participants. He plans to study education and is the son of Brian and Lisa Kube of  Fairmont, Minnesota. 

Isaac Looker, a senior at Rogers High School (Washington), is listed as a 6-3, 215 pound quarterback.  He passed for over 7,000 yards and accounted for 45 touchdowns and was a first-team all-league performer. He’s the son of Dane and Amy Looker of Tacoma, Washington and plans to study engineering.  

Brendan Pieper is a 6-0, 195 pound running back and linebacker from New Prague High School (Minnesota).  He scored 14 touchdowns in 2021 and had  over 1,300 rushing yards and also blocked a punt and field goal on special teams.  He was an all-conference and all-district selection and was an academic all-state pick.  Brendan is the son of Stacey and Michael Pieper of New Prague, Minnesota.  He plans to study business and finance at Dordt. 

Chase Tompkins is a senior at ThunderRidge High School and played wide receiver, quarterback, running back, defensive back, punter and retruned punts and kicks during his career.  He was a two-time all-state, all-conference, academic all-state and team captain. He scored 17 touchdowns, totaled overa 1,100 yards on offense and had 23 tackles and an interception.  He’s listed 5-11, 182 pounds and is the son of Bryan and Terry Tompkins of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.  Chase plans to enter the pre-chiropractic program. 

Jaden Witte is a senior at Sioux Falls Christian (South Dakota) and is listed 6-4, 195 pounds.  He played tight end and wide receiver and caught 77 passes for 1,092 yards during his career with 15 touchdowns scored. He was an all-conference pick in 2020 and earned all-state and Elite 45 status in 2021.  Jaden is the son of Brent and Dawn Witte of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He plans to study business and finance at Dordt.  

December 2021 announced commits 

Alex Abens is a senior at Dallas Center Grimes High School (Iowa) who is listed as a 6-2, 195 pound safety. Abens had 44 tackles and five interceptions while earning first-team all-district honors from Class 4A District 6.  He earned academic all-district honors twice and is the son of James and Megan Abens of Grimes, Iowa.  He plans to enter the pre-med program and study engineering with a biomedical emphasis. 

Joel Akers is a senior at Winterset Senior High School (Iowa) and played left tackle and right guard. He earned first-team all-district honors twice for Winterset and he helped pave the way for 3,473 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns in 2021 while advancing to the Iowa Class 4A semifinals. Akers was a team captain and is listed 6-1, 270 pounds and he plans to study education and mathematics. Joel is the son of Chris and Misty Akers of Winterset, Iowa.  

Zachary Brouwer, a senior at Ripon Christian High School (California), is listed 6-2, 265 pounds and has played on the offensive and defensive lines during his career and has totaled 65 tackles during his career with 47 solo stops, 12 for loss and six sacks. He was a first-team all-league selection and was named the league’s defensive lineman of the year and helped Ripon Christian to a pair of league titles. He’s the son of Neil and Beth Ann Brouwer of Tracy, California and he plans to study agri-business at Dordt. 

Nolan Buckholtz is a student at Maple River High School (Minnesota) where he played on both the offensive and defensive lines. Buckholtz was a 2021 all-district selection along with earning district lineman and Maple River lineman of the year.  Buckholtz was also picked as a Minnesota All-Star D Lineman in 2021 and earned 2020 all-district honors. Maple River gained nearly 5,000 yards on offense this season and he was a part of three district championship teams and he helped Maple River to a state semifinal appearance. Nolan is listed 5-11, 230 pounds and is the son of Heath and Steph Buckholtz of Comfrey, Minnesota. He plans to study agriculture.   

Bo Byl is a senior at Unity Christian High School (Iowa). He’s listed as a 6-4, 200 pound tight end who earned all-district football honors in 2021 after averaging 14.2 yards per catch and he scored four touchdowns.  He also earned academic all-state accolades this fall and was an all-conference pick in basketball as a junior. Byl plans to study business at Dordt and is the son of Dan and Missy Byl of Sioux Center, Iowa.  

Ty Clemens is a senior at Oak Park High School (Missouri) and is a 6-2, 190 pound quarterback. Clemens passed for 1,824 yards last season and totaled 2,010 yards of offense, both records, in 2021.  He passed for 19 touchdowns in 2021 and has 2,835 career passing yards and earned first-team all-conference and first-team all-district accolades.  Clemens was voted the Oak Park team mvp at the conclusion of the season and plans to study engineering. Ty is the son of Kenneth and Julie Clemens of or Liberty, Missouri.  

Jacob Crystal will graduate from Adel Desoto Minburn High School (Iowa) and is a 6-1, 240 pound defensive tackle and tight end.  He had 32.5 tackles this season—25 of them solo and had three sacks with a pair of fumble recoveries and he forced a fumble. Crystal earned first-team all-district honors this season after claiming second-team accolades last season and he won the ADM Toughness and Lineman of the Year award. Crystal helped ADM to a state playoff berth and was a team captain in 2021.  He is the son of Michelle and Bill Crystal from Adel, Iowa. He plans to study ag-business at Dordt.  

Connor Dodd is a senior at Hartley Melvin Sanborn High School (Iowa) and is listed 5-10, 162 pounds and played cornerback and running back.  Dodd ran and caught passes for 3,631 yards during his high school career and scored 42 touchdowns and 16 two-point conversions.  He had six interceptions on defense and was in on 91 tackles. Dodd claimed first-team all-state honors at running back and was a two-time all-district selection while also being named an academic all-district selection two times. Dodd was an academic all-state selection as a senior and served as team captain for the Hawks the last two seasons.   Dodd led the state in Class A with 2,155 all-purpose yards and ran for a school record 300 yards in the opening round of the post-season.  Dodd ran track for Hartley Melvin Sanborn and qualified for the state meet in the 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x200.  He’s the son of Chris and Tammy Dodd of Hartley, Iowa and plans to study business. 

Luke Gintz will graduate from Elk River High School (Minnesota) and is listed as a 6-0, 305 pound offensive and defensive lineman. Gintz twice earned all-conference honors along with academic all-state honors.  He was voted his team’s offensive mvp and team captain. Luke is the son of Corrine Gintz-Rivers and Peter Rivers of Elk River, Minnesota and he plans to study engineering. 

Ethan Hansen will graduate from Appleton North High School (Wisconsin) and is a 6-2, 265 pound offensive and defensive lineman.  Hansen was twice named first-team all-conference and claimed all-region honors once.  He had three sacks and 21 tackles on defense this season and he was an academic all-state pick for wrestling during his career and placed sixth at the state wrestling meet at 285 pounds. Ethan is the son of Erik and Tara Hansen of Grand Chute, Wisconsin.  

Ethan Hooyer is a student at Sioux Center High School (Iowa) and played both offensive and defensive line in high school.  He was named first-team all-district and all-state the last two seasons and was a second-team all-district selection as a sophomore. Hooyer had 25 tackles in 2021 and is 6-3, 285 pounds.  Ethan is the son of Phil and Judy Hooyer and he plans to study engineering.  

Preston McCoy is a student at Alta-Aurelia High School (Iowa) and is listed 5-11, 180 pounds and has played running back, wide receiver, linebacker and safety. He was a second-team all-state pick and earned first-team all-district honors while also being named academic all-state and all-district.  McCoy accounted for 1,550 yards and 17 touchdowns on offense and 62 tackles with two interceptions on defense as a senior. He was part of three teams that qualified for the state playoffs and plans to study business at Dordt. He is the son of Dave and Kim McCoy of Galva, Iowa.    

Thomas McCullough is a senior at Ravenna High School (Michigan) where he played every skill position and served as kick and punt returner. He’s listed 6-1, 180 pounds and played in 30 career games with 43 receptions for a 11 yards per catch average; 93 rushes for 7.0 yards per carry; 14 kick returns for a 19.1 average and 15 punt returns with a return for a score. On defense he had 59.5 tackles with 15 tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and three interceptions. McCullough was a 2019 all-conference and all-area pick and earned first-team all-conference honors at defensive back and was the MLIve Dream Team second-team. Thomas is the son of Seth and Trisha McCullough of Ravenna, Michigan. He plans to study health and human performance. 

Lyle Moore is a senior at George Little Rock High School (Iowa) and is listed as a 6-1, 235 pound center, defensive and fullback.  He had 44 tackles this season with two sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss and was a first-team all-district honors on defense last fall for Central Lyon George Little Rock. He plans to study criminal justice at Dordt and is the son of Lyle and Dorinda Moore of George, Iowa.   

Derek Paup is a senior at Creston High School (Iowa) where he played defensive end, tight end and punter at Creston. Paup earned all-district honors at defensive line twice and was a third-team all-state pick. During his career he had 80 tackles with 18 for loss and recorded 12 sacks.  He punted 66 times with a 38.0 yards per attempt average and caught 28 passes during his career for a 14.6 average. He’s listed 6-2, 220 pounds and was instrumental in helping Creston go from 1-9 in 2020 to 6-3 in 2021.  He plans to study business management and is the son of Chad and Jodi Paup of Creston, Iowa. 

Jeremiah Peterson plays for White Bear Lake High School (Minnesota) and was a two-year starter on the offensive line.  Peterson is listed 6-2, 280 pounds and is the son of Jeff and Jen Peterson of White Bear Lake, Minnesota and he plans to study criminal justice. 

Ty Reishus is a senior at Mill Valley High School (Kansas) and is a 5-11, 185 pound receiver.  Reishus caught passes for over 1,000 yards during his career and had eight touchdown grabs and averaged over 20 yards per catch.  He is an honorable mention all-state pick and was part of two 5A state champion teams.  Ty is the son of Matt and Sherri Reishus of Shawnee, Kansas and he plans to study engineering. 

Preston Rowe is at Pella High School (Iowa) and is a 6-1, 205 pound tight end and linebacker. He caught 19 passes for 303 yards with two touchdowns and was in on 50 solo tackles with four sacks and 12 tackles for loss.  Rowe is a two-time all-district selection and earned academic all-district honors and helped Pella to a pair of playoff berths and district championships. Preston is the son of Hilary and Davis Rowe of Pella, Iowa and plans to study engineering.  

Zachery Rozeboom is a senior at Sioux Center High School (Iowa) where he played linebacker and quarterback.  Rozeboom passed for 1,354 yards with 12 passing touchdowns in 2021.  He ran for 548 yards on two touchdowns and earned all-district honors twice during his career.  In 2020 he passed for 604 yards and seven touchdowns and ran for 978 yards and 11 touchdowns. Rozeboom is also a two-time all-conference honoree in wrestling and he is listed 6-1, 195 pounds.  Zachery is the son of Travis and Amy Rozeboom of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to study health and human performance.  

Logan Rysavy will graduate from Saint Ansgar High School (Iowa) and has played offensive line, defensive line and was a punter and kicker in high school. He’s listed 6-3, 200 pounds and had a 36.5 yards per punt average for Saint Ansgar and earned academic all-district honors.  Logan is the son of Pete and Heather Rysavy of Saint Ansgar, Iowa. He plans to study engineering. 

Brett Schouten is a senior at Sioux Center High School (Iowa) and is a 6-3, 165 pound wide receiver. Schouten caught 38 passes for 654 yards and six touchdowns and had an interception for a touchdown return on defense.  Schouten was a first-team all-district selection in 2021 and helped Sioux Center to a state playoff berth. Brett is the son of Rick and Jill Schouten of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to enter the pre-law program at Dordt.  

Cael Schulte is a student at Central Lyon High School and played offensive tackle for the Lions.  He’s listed 6-4, 225 pounds and earned first-team all-district honors twice and helped the Lions to a 7-4 record this season and a state runner-up finish in 2020.  Cael is the son of Nate and Amy Schulte of Rock Rapids, Iowa. He plans to study engineering.  

Jayden Soard is a 6-0, 220 pound senior at South Central Calhoun (Iowa) who played linebacker, fullback, tight end and both offensive and defensive line. He totaled 200 tackles during his career with three interceptions and six sacks with five touchdowns. Soard was a first-team all-district and all-area pick in 2021 and claimed all-district, all-area and third-team all-state honors as a junior.  He’s the son of Mindy Soard and Rob and Cindy Soard.  He plans to study education and is from Lake City, Iowa.  

Ethan Snieder, a student at Sioux City East High School (Iowa), is a 6-4, 220 pound tight end, wide receiver, fullback and defensive end.  Sneider totaled 37.5 tackles with five touchdown catches and had a 35.1 yards per punt average in 2021. Snieder is a two-time, first-team all-district pick on defense and plans to study health and human performance. He’s the son of Janie and Kevin Snieder of Sioux City, Iowa.  

Jamin Stuhr, a student at Webster City High School (Iowa), is a 6-2, 215 pound defensive end who was named the district defensive lineman of the year and had 33 tackles with 2.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss. He also had 53 tackles and five sacks as a junior and has twice earned first-team all-district honors. Stuhr was part of a Webster City team that won the district title the last two seasons and advanced to the state quarterfinals.  Jamin is the son of Cory Stuhr, Michelle Veldhuizen, Kurt Veldhuizen and Tatum Stuhr. Jamin’s hometown is Blairsburg, Iowa and he plans to study exercise science.  

Malachi Stuive attends Holland Christian (Michigan) and is 6-5, 250 pounds.  Stuive led Holland Christian in quarterback sacks this season and played on the defensive line.  Malachi is the son of Eric and Jessica Stuive from Zeeland, Michigan. He plans to study business.  

Jordan Van Veldhuizen is a senior at West Lyon High School (Iowa) where he has been the kicker the last three seasons for the Wildcats.  Van Veldhuizen is 123-144 during his career on point after tries and has a long field goal of 32 yards.  Van Veldhuizen was a first-team all-district selection in 2021 and was the kicker for state champion, state runner-up and a state quarterfinalist teams during his career.  Jordan is the son of Anita and Denny Van Veldhuizen of Alvord, Iowa.  He plans to study computer science. 

Kaleb Weyenberg is a student at Neenah High School (Wisconsin) and played both defensive end and offensive guard. Weyenberg earned second-team all-conference honors in 2020 and honorable mention all-conference honors in 2021.  He’s listed 6-3, 220 pounds and is the son of Troy and Stacy Weyenburg of Neenah, Wisconsin. He plans to study theology.
