Softball Travels To Yankton For Critical GPAC Doubleheader


Dordt will travel to Yankton, South Dakota to face Mount Marty in GPAC play starting at 4:00 in doubleheader action.

The Lancers are 21-9 overall and stand 9-3 in the GPAC with league losses to Hastings, Northwestern and Dakota Wesleyan. Mount Marty is on a current four game winning streak and has won nine of its last ten games dating back to March 26.

Elliot Burns is batting .545 this season with 11 homeruns, 49 runs batted in with 54 hits and 36 runs scored. Bailey Kortan is batting .411 with two homeruns and 27 runs batted in and 44 hits.  The Lancers are batting .320 as a team and have outscored teams 209-114.

Three different pitchers have thrown 56 or 58 innings so far with Maureena Vornhagen sporting a 6-2 record with a 3.13 earned run average and she has 59 strikeouts with 25 bases on balls. Kaylee Rogers has a 3.26 earned run average with 44 strikeouts and McKenzie Gray has a 4.22 earned run average and has 58 innings pitched with 46 strikeouts.


The Defender women are currently 18-9-1 overall and are 8-2 in the GPAC after going 6-0 last week. The Defenders have won 13 of their last 15 decisions.

The Defenders have a team batting average of .250 and have outscored teams 114-86. Jessica Oules is batting .348 with 19 runs scored and Karli Olsen is batting .333 with 27 hits and four homeruns to go with 17 runs batted in. Chandler Schemper is batting .313 and has knocked in 19 runs. Kenzie Cunard has lifted her batting average to .296 and Emma Groen has four homeruns.

Abby Kraemer anchors the pitching staff with a 14-3 record and a 1.17 earned run average in 107 innings pitched and she has struck out 138 and walked 16. Hailey Wilkin is 1-2 in 32 innings pitched and has a 3.21 earned run average and Taylor Knaack is 3-3 in 37 innings pitched.


Dordt as a 7-2 winner over Doane on Saturday in game one of the doubleheader and then secured a 7-6 win in a 11 inning decision after overcoming a four run deficit to force extra innings.

Mount Marty was a 5-1 and 10-0 winner over Morningside on Sunday to run their winning streak to four.


Mount Marty won both games of the doubleheader on March 29, 2021 by scores of 4-0 and 5-2.
