MIDLAND

Midland is 14-8 overall and 5-7 in the conference and has lost four in a row since a January 5 win over Doane.  The Warriors lost to Morningside by one, Dakota Wesleyan by three, Northwestern by 11 and Mount Marty most recently on January 19.

The Warriors outscore teams 77-70 and outrebound teams 36-33.  Midland is converting 47 percent of its field goals and have taken over 50 percent of its field goals from behind the three-point line. Teams are converting 44 percent of their field goals against the Warriors and they commit less than nine turnovers per game.

Laurence Merritt scores 18.7 points per game and Bo Sandquist is at 15.8 points per game with 72 made three-point shots and 37 percent success with six rebounds per game. Jake Rueschhoff puts in 12.2 points per game and Ryan Larsen is at 7.2 points per outing. Merrit and Larsen have 52 and 51 made three-point baskets this season.

DORDT

The Defenders are 13-7 this season and hold a 5-6 record in league play. Dordt’s lost their last three games after winning seven of eight and the last two losses have been by two points each.

The Defenders have outscored teams 83-72 and outrebound teams 37-33.  Dordt converts 50 percent of its field goals and limit opponents to 44 percent. Dordt also makes 37 percent of their three-point shots.

Bryce Coppock is the leading scorer with an 18.4 points per game average with four rebounds and he has 38 made three-point shots. Jacob Vis scores 15.9 points per game and Cade Bleeker and Luke Rankin score 12.7 and 10.3 points per game respectively. Rankin hands out five assists per game and Jackson Louscher adds 7.8 points per game. Bleeker tops the team with 42 made three-point baskets and Rankin has 22 and Trey Hinote 23.

LAST TIME

Midland trailed Mount Marty at halftime 37-31 and the Lancers made 51 percent of its field goals on the way to 75-66 win. Midland’s effort was led by Merritt with 15 and Rueschoff added and Sandquist added 10 points with seven rebounds.

Dordt hosted Briar Cliff on Saturday, January 15 and lost a 70-68 decision and were limited to 41 percent field goal shooting but had a 33-28 rebounding margin to help get 10 more field goal attempts than Briar Cliff.   Jackson Louscher scored 16 with six rebounds and two assists and Bryce Coppock scored 15 and Luke Rankin 13 with four assists.

THE SERIES

Dordt held on to win 88-83 in overtime in the first meeting on December 4.  The Defenders were up 42-33 at halftime and had to withstand a 25 point outburst by Emanuel Bryson and Laurence Merritt added 23 with five assists.  Dordt got 30 points from Vis and Coppock added 27 and Bleeker 16.
