Defenders Host Basketball Classic Friday and Saturday

Dordt will host a classic on Friday and Saturday, November 26 and 27 with Peru State, Northwestern and Oak Hills Christian making up the field with the Defenders.

Northwestern is 7-1 this season and have a 1-1 GPAC record. The Raiders lost on November 23 to Midland to stop a seven game winning streak that started the season.
Alex Van Kalsbeek tops Northwestern with a 22.3 points per game average and he takes in 9.4 rebounds with 3.4 assists per contest. Van Kalsbeek converts 67 percent of his field goal attempts. Trent Hilbrands is adding 18.1 points per game and leads the team with 23 made three-point shots. Matt Onken and Noah Slagter are at 10.6 and 10.0 points per game respectively and they get 4.8 and 5.5 rebounds per game. Grant De Meulenaere converts 9.3 points per game and is the co-leader with Van Kalsbeek in assists per game with 3.4.

Oak Hills Christian
Oak Hills is 1-7 this season with a win over Emmaus Bible College and most recently lost a 79-78 contest with Central Christian College in a game played in Minneapolis on November 20. Other details for Oak Hills Christian are unavailable.
Peru State is 4-5 this season and is 1-1 in the Heart of America Conference and the Bobcats have won three games in a row. Peru State started the season slowly with five losses to Morningside, Northwestern Bellevue, Concordia and William Penn. All but the loss to Morningside were by single digits and Peru State has lost to Concordia and William Penn by one and three points each.
Jibril Harris averages 14.8 points per game with 6.1 rebounds and Troy Houghton is good for 9.4 points along with Henry Tanksley. Ajantae Hogan scores 8.8 points and Man Man Baker is scoring 8.7. Skyler Wlson converts 8.3 points per game and takes in 5.4 rebounds.
Peru State is outscoring teams 78-76.1 and outrebound teams 33-29.6. The Bobcats also make 48.7 percent of their field goals and 40.1 percent of their three-point shots.
The Defenders are 7-3 this season and are 1-2 in GPAC play after beating Briar Cliff on Tuesday night. Losses in the league for the Defenders are to Concordia and Morningside and Dordt also stumbled in overtime to William Penn.
Bryce Coppock leads the Defenders with a 16.3 points per game average along with 4.7 rebounds and he is making 42 percent of his field goals with 2.3 assists. Jacob Vis adds 15.6 points per game and is converting 63 percent of his field goals and leads the team in rebounds with 7.3 per game. Cade Bleeker is good for 13 points per game and Luke Rankin’s average is 12.2 points per game with 5.8 assists. Jackson Louscher is good for 7.4 points per contest as Dordt outscores teams 85.3-72.9.
The Defenders hold a 38.8-33.7 rebounding advantage and limit teams to 42.1 percent field goal shooting while making 51 percent of their field goals. Dordt is also converting 35.8 percent of the three-point shots it takes and the Defenders are averaging 11.5 turnovers per game while forcing the same number.
Dordt nipped Briar Cliff 74-73 with Jacob Vis and Bryce Coppock each scoring 22 and Jackson Louscher scored 11 in a game played Tuesday night, November 23.
Peru State beat Clarke 92-89 behind 18 points from Jibril Harris and 16 from Henry Tanksley as the Bobcats converted 51.6 percent of their field goals and forced 12 turnovers while committing just six.
Northwestern lost to Midland 77-66 on Tuesday night after trailing 47-26 at the halftime break. Trent Hilbrands scored 18 but was held to 0-5 three-point shooting and Noah Slagter scored 13 and Conner Geddes came off the bench to score 11.
Dordt hosted Peru State on November 30, 2019 in the most recent meeting of the teams and Dordt won an 86-67 decision behind Garrett Franken with 17 points and Jesse Jansma added 16. Peru State’s Devon Colley scored 16 with Henry Tanksley adding 16.
Dordt played Oak Hills Christian twice during the 2015-16 season and won a pair of games by scores of 91-39 and 113-69. In the second game Dordt was led by Alec Henrickson’s 16 points and Marcus Winterfeld added 14 while Chad Barkema scored 11 with seven rebounds and seven assists with three steals.
Dordt will travel to face Midland on Saturday, December 4 as GPAC play resumes.
