Men's Basketball Tangles With Morningside Wednesday

The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team will travel to Sioux City, Iowa to face the Morningside Mustangs on Wednesday, November 17 at approximately 7:45 following the women’s contest.
The Mustangs are 3-1 this season with wins over Peru State (83-56), Graceland (74-70) and Dakota Wesleyan (74-57). Morningside lost to Olivet Nazarene (87-83) on November 5 and the Mustangs have won two in a row.
The Mustangs average 78.5 points per game and allow 67.5 and Morningside is outrebounding teams 36.3-32.3. Morningside is converting 48.6 percent of its field goal attempts and 38.6 percent of its three-point baskets while teams are making 44 percent of their field goals against Morningside.
Aidan Vanderloo tops the team with a 19.0 points per game average and Trey Brown is good for 12.8 points per game with 9.8 rebounds while Zach Imig is scoring 11.3 points with 6.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists. Joey Skoff and Will Pottebaum are at 10 and 9.0 points per game. The Mustangs limited the Tigers to 19-50 shooting and had a 38-28 rebounding advantage.
The Defenders are 6-1 this season and have won six in a row since a season opening overtime loss to William Penn.
Dordt is outscoring teams 88.9-69.1 and outrebound teams 41.9-32.6. The Defenders are converting 52.5 percent of their field goals and limit opponents to 39.2 percent success.
Bryce Coppock scores 15.7 points per game and gets 5.0 rebounds while Cade Bleeker is scoring 14.1 points per game with 3.1 rebounds and he is converting 40 percent of his three-point shots. Jacob Vis adds 14.0 points per game with 7.2 rebounds and he has 16 blocked shots. Luke Rankin is good for 13.3 points per game with 6.3 assists and Camden Bialas is adding 8.4 points per outing with 4.9 rebounds. Jackson Louscher, Caleb Harmsen and Trey Hinote score 6.7, 5.1 and 5.0 points per game.
Morningside turned away Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday 74-57 in a game played in Sioux City. Pottebaum scored 18 with Imig putting in 16 with 10 rebounds and five assists. Vander Loo added 13. 67 of Morningside’s 74 points came from its starting five.
Dordt ran away from Viterbo on Saturday by a 100-51 score after leading 47-28 at halftime. Bleeker led the Defenders with 25 points on 9-12 shooting and Vis added 16 points with eight rebounds. Louscher added 11 points with seven rebounds and Rankin recorded nine assists.
The Defenders lost to Morningside on December 2, 79-66 and 84-80 on January 20. In the January meeting in Sioux Center the Defenders led briefly in the first half and fought back to tie the game on several occasions in the second half but could never take the lead. The last tie came at 78-78 and Morningside responded with a 4-0 run and held on for the win. Trey Brown scored 23 with 14 rebounds and Zach Imig had 14 in the win. Dordt was paced by Garrett Franken with 16 and Jesse Jansma had 15.
Dordt will host Concordia on Saturday and travels to Briar Cliff on Tuesday, November 23.
Morningside is scheduled to play Doane on November 23 in Crete.
