Bousema Earns GPAC Weekly Honor

(Wednesday, October 27; Sioux Center, Iowa) The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports have announced the volleyball players-of-the-week for matches played October 18-24.  Dordt’s Erica Bousema (Senior; Sheldon, Iowa) has been named the Defensive-Player-of-the-Week for her play against Doane and Hastings.

Bousema had 23 digs in a five-set win over Hastings on Friday, October 22 and she followed that match with 26 dig performance against Doane on October 23 in a sweep. Bousema averaged just over six digs per set and also had four service aces as the Defenders took the two road matches. This is the second time this season Bousema has claimed the weekly honor.

““Erica had a great week leading us in the backrow through her nearly 6 rotations.  In addition to the 6.1 digs per set, her serving, serve receive passing and defensive adjustments for our team have also been really strong.  She is a competitor and will do whatever she can to help our team become more successful each week.  This honor is well deserved and a testament to the great weekend of play that she had along with her teammates,” said Dordt volleyball coach Chad Hanson.

Bousema has helped the Defenders to a 15-7 overall record and a no. 16 national ranking in the most recent coaches’ poll.  She’s averaging 5.6 digs per set and has 17 ace serves this season.  Dordt has three matches remaining against Northwestern (October 27), Midland (October 30) and Briar Cliff (November 2).
