Men's Cross Country At Mount Marty Invite

The Event... The Dordt University men’s cross country will compete in the Mount Marty Invite this weekend in Yankton, S.D. Saturday’s race is the final tune-up prior to the GPAC Championship coming up on Nov. 6. The Mount Marty Invite will be held at the Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton with the 8K race beginning at 11:15am.
Teams Competing...Dordt is one of 16 teams scheduled to compete on Saturday and one of nine conference teams to run. The field of teams include; Bellevue, Briar Cliff, Columbia, Concordia, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Dickinson State, Dordt, Jamestown, Midland, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern, South Dakota State, Valley City State and Waldorf.
Rankings...Dordt is ranked 13th in the latest NAIA Coaches’ poll (Oct.14) and is the only team in this week’s field that is recognized in the national poll.
Last Time...Dordt University claimed its second team championship last time out, winning its home meet, the Defenders Holiday Inn Express Classic, held Oct.9.
The Defenders totaled 18 points, nearly a perfect score, and had all seven counting runners place in the top seven. Jacob Vander Plaats was the second of the 116 runners to cross the finish line, doing so with a personal best time of 25:17.

Outlook...Head Coach Nate Wolf’s squad has finished in the top 10 in all four meets this season, owning two wins (GPAC Preview, Defenders Holiday Inn Express Classic). They also have a third place finish at the Augustana Twilight, a meet that featured over 30 teams and several from NCAA D-I and D-II.
Jacob Vander Plaats (3x) and Eric Steiger (1x) have been the Defenders top runner in each of the four meets. Davis Tebben has a top 10 finish and has been Dordt’s second or third runner in three meets. Nic Veldhorst and Joe Anderson have been among the team’s top seven in every meet they competed.
