Women's Cross Country To Run at Mount Marty

The Event...The Dordt University women’s cross country team will compete in the Mount Marty Invite this weekend, one final tune-up prior to the championship events held later this all. Saturday’s 5K race is set to begin at 10:30am.

Teams Competing...Runners from 15 different teams are scheduled to compete in the late season meet. Dordt is one of 10 teams from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) set to run; Briar Cliff, Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan, Jamestown, Midland, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern and College of Saint Mary join the Defenders. Other teams include Bellevue, Dakota State, Dickinson State, Valley City State and Waldorf.

Rankings...Dordt continues to be ranked 14th in the NAIA rankings, a spot held in the last two ratings (Oct.7 and 14). The Defenders are one of four GPAC teams recognized in the latest poll, joining Concordia (11), Hastings (24) and Morningside (RV).

Last Time...The Defenders were once again the top NAIA team and finished second overall at their home meet, the Defenders Holiday Inn Express Classic, held on Oct. 9.

Dordt accounted for 64 points, trailing only third-ranked in NCAA D-II Augustana (S.D.).

All seven of Dordt's counters finished among the top 20, led by Jessica Kampman, who placed fourth with a time of 18:50. The Defenders ran 20 season bests and five career bests.

Dordt's Top Seven:

  • 4th - Jessica Kampman: 18:50
  • 12th - Taylor Anema: 19:14
  • 17th - Margaret Myskowski: 19:30
  • 19th - Alexa Veldhuisen: 19:40
  • 20th - Lucy Borkowski: 19:41
  • 21st - Brenna Tolkamp: 19:43
  • 22nd - Eden Winslow: 19:46

Outlook...Saturday’s race will be the final tune-up prior to the GPAC Championship on Nov.6 (in Orange City, Iowa) and the NAIA Championship on Nov. 19 in Vancouver, Washington.

Dordt has been the top NAIA team in all but one meet this fall with one first place and one second place finish overall.

Jessica Kampman has been the Defenders top runner in all four meets and has earned GPAC runner of the week three times this fall. The junior has three top 10 finishes. Taylor Anema has been the team’s second runner in all four meets and ran a personal best time last time out. Lucy Borkowski, Margaret Myskowski and Eden Winslow all have been Dordt’s No.3 runner in at least one meet this season. Alexa Veldhuisen ran a personal best time and was the Defenders No.4 runner in the last meet.
