Dordt University begins the final stretch of its season with a mid-week match against the University of Jamestown. Wednesday's game at the Jimmies Turf Field in Jamestown, N.D. is set for a 7:30pm start.

UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN

The Jimmies have dropped their last three matches, losing to a ranked Bellevue squad 4-1 over the weekend. They are in sixth place in the current GPAC standings with a 3-4-1 record, one game behind Concordia and one up on both Mount Marty and Dakota Wesleyan with three matches left to play in the regular season. Jamestown has a 5-7-2 overall record.

Connor Campbell took over the Jimmies program during the summer after spending the last few seasons in the same role at Cincinnati Christian and Florida Memorial. 

Picked seventh in the GPAC preseason poll, Jamestown finished the 2020 season tied with Doane for sixth place in the GPAC at 5-6, 6-10 overall. They lost to Hastings in the quarterfinals and return eight starters from last year.

Aaron Pike and Diego Valle pace the Jamestown offense with six goals each. Pike, a second team all-conference player, leads the team with four assists. Nine different players have scored for Jamestown, who enters Wednesday's match netting two goals per game.

Alex Hamer returns as the starting goalkeeper and is giving up nearly two goals per game.

DORDT

The Defenders lost to Presentation (S.D.) last time out (4-2), a setback that dropped them into a tie for 11th place with the Saints at 1-7 (GPAC), 2-11-2 overall. Dordt has earned wins against Bethany Lutheran (Minn.) and Midland (Neb.). 

Dordt was picked ninth in the GPAC preseason poll and ended the 2020 campaign with a 3-8 league record, 4-10 overall. 

Head Coach Ryan Gresse's squad is scoring 1.4 goals per match and has netted more than one goal in five matches this season. Blake Hansen pushed his team-leading season total to eight goals scored in the loss to Presentation last weekend. The sophomore also has a pair of assists. Phil Appelt is second on the team in goals (4) and points (9). 

Brandon Hansen has made 90 saves in goal for the Defenders, who has a 2-8-2 overall record coming into Wednesday's match. Hansen is giving up just under three goals per match.

THE SERIES

Wednesday's match will be the 13th played in the rivalry between the teams. Dordt is 3-8-1 all-time against the Jimmies with its last win in 2011 by a 1-0 score. The Defenders are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games against their North Dakota rival and have lost seven of their last eight. Last year, Dordt lost 4-2 and played to a scoreless, double-overtime tie in 2019.
