Defenders Host Flames In GPAC Volleyball


Dordt will host the College of Saint Mary on Saturday, October 16 with the junior varsity match at 3:30 and the varsity match at 5:00.  This is the only meeting this season between the two teams.

The Flames have continued their resurgence and a return to national prominence on the NAIA scene with an 18-3 record going into play this weekend and the Flames are 8-2 in the GPAC. Last year’s team was 15-10 and went 5-10 in the GPAC and two years ago the Flames qualified for the NAIA National Championship Final Site field and posted a 25-17 record.  

 The Flames lost to Midland on August 25 3-0 and Viterbo on September 4 by a 3-1 count.  Hastings dropped the Flames in Hastings 3-2. Earlier in the season the Flames had beaten Hastings 3-2 and have also secured 3-2 wins over Concordia and Midland.  

Makenna Freeman leads the team with a 2.64 kills per set average and Kamryn Willman is at 2.47 and Rosa Reed-Bouley adds 2.34 kills per set in a balanced College of Saint Mary attack. Dani Prusha accounts for 10.1 assists per set and she leads the team with 28 ace serves while Freeman has 20. Rachel Cushing is the libero and her digs per set average is 5.56 and Willman leads the defense at the net with a 1.06 average.  

The Omaha, Nebraska based school averages 13.1 kills per set while giving up 10.4 and the Flames also have a 113-81 service ace edge.  Rick Pruitt’s team also gets 2.27 blocks per set while giving up 1.74. 


The Defenders are 13-6 this season and 5-5 in league play and are rated no. 16 in the most recent NAIA Coaches’ Poll.    

 Corrina Timmermans leads the team with a 3.65 kills per set average and Jessi Franken’s average is 2.59.  Alli Timmermans is good for 2.49 kills per set with a .280 kill efficiency while Grace Langemeier and Danielle Vande Voort are averaging 1.4 and 1.2 kills per set.   Megan Raszler averages 6.4 assists per outing and Campbell Marshall adds 4.6.  Erica Bousema’s average is 5.7 digs per set.  

 Dordt is averaging 12.38 kills per contest while allowing 12.26.  Dordt has an 86-69 ace serves lead the season on opponents and Dordt accounts for 2.13 points per set on blocks while surrendering 1.77.  


Dordt won a tense battle last year on October 24 by a score of 21-25, 25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 15-9. Alli Timmermans had 15 kills and Corinna Timmermans had 12 with Raszler putting up 31 assists and Hannah Connelly recorded 29 digs for the Defenders. Freeman led the Flames with 19 kills and she had 17 digs while Elizabeth Dlouhy had 15 kills Lauren Anderson accounted for 48 assists.   


Dordt beat Mount Marty 3-1 behind  11 kills from Alli Timmermans and Jessi Franken had 10 as Dordt piled up 14 points on blocks and 13 with ace serves.  

The Flames were 3-2 winners over Northwestern after getting down 2-0. Makenna Freeman had 15 kills and Dlouhy had 13 wile Prusha put up 39 assists.
