Smith Signs On With Defenders

(Tuesday, October 5; Sioux Center, Iowa) Brooke Smith, a senior at Spirit Lake High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program. 

“Brooke is an awesome person and had a fantastic offseason improving her skill and ability to score.  Brooke is a confident individual and is a fantastic teammate.  She has shown tremendous leadership throughout her high school career.  We are looking forward to maximizing Brooke’s potential during her time at Dordt,” said Dordt basketball coach Bill Harmsen.  

Smith is a 5-10 guard who averaged 8.1 points per game last season with 5.6 rebounds and she handed out 2.8 assists per contest.  She was a second-team all-Lakes Conference pick after earning honorable mention honors as a freshman and sophomore.   

“I have valued the strong relationships built between the Dordt coaches and I. When I went on a visit everyone was nice and inviting.  The campus is beautiful and the support from the community is amazing,” said Smith.  

Brooke is the daughter of David and Lori Smith of Spirit Lake, Iowa.  She plans to study accounting, business administration or enter the pre-law program.  

Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a comprehensive Christian college rooted in the Reformed tradition. The Defender athletic program is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) and the Mid-American Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA).   

 U.S. News & World Report, Money Magazine,, Washington Monthly, and Princeton Review all list Dordt on their best colleges lists. Dordt is home to approximately 1,500 students.
