Women's Soccer Returns Home to host Mount Marty

Dordt returns to the field, following its bye weekend, when they host Mount Marty in a GPAC match on Wednesday, Oct.6. Game time is set for 6pm.

Since a 2-1 road win against Buena Vista in their second match of the season (Sept.1), Mount Marty has lost seven consecutive matches, the last four in conference play. The Lancers are in 11th place in the current GPAC standings with an 0-5 mark, 1-8 overall.
Most recent, Mount Marty lost to College of Saint Mary and Briar Cliff, both by 1-0 scores, and was defeated by Northwestern 5-0.
Cynthia Chavez is in her first season as the Lancers head coach, coming to Yankton after a short stint as the assistant for Kansas Wesleyan. Chavez was a two-time All-American playing for KWU.
Mount Marty returns four starters, six players, from a 2020 team that finished 11th in the GPAC with a 2-9-1 record, 2-10-1 overall. The Lancers were picked 11th out of 13 teams in the GPAC preseason poll.
The Lancers have scored three goals this season (.4 / match) and are giving up just over three goals per contest. They have been shutout seven times this season.
Tianna Bumbaca-Kuehl is the top returner from the 2020 season, earning all-conference recognition last year. Bumbaca-Kuehl is one of three Lancers to score a goal, along with Brenna Norries and Becky Wilkins. Kelsey Johnson has 43 saves and has played every minute in goal for the Lancers.
The Defenders needed extra time but earned their first league win of the season when they downed DWU 4-3 in a match played in Mitchell, S.D. last week. Dordt is 1-3-1 and in ninth place in the current GPAC standings, 6-4-1 overall.
Dordt is averaging 2.3 goals per game, led by freshman Avril Baccam with a GPAC-best 12 goals scored this season. Jori Bronner is second with four goals and both Ellie Stuart and Katherine Kooiman have scored three times. Claire Jansen leads the team with four assists while Stuart ranks second with three.
Jenna Wright has a 6-3-1 record in goal for the Defenders, making 45 saves in 10 matches. The freshman is giving up 1.3 goals per game and has three shutouts.
Dordt has played Mount Marty at least once per season since 2002. The Defenders are 17-1-2 all-time and is unbeaten in its last nine matches against the Lancers. Dordt is 9-0-1 in matches played in Yankton, S.D.
Last year, Dordt earned a pair of 5-0 wins against the Lancers.
